September
2009
Greetings to all our friends in the potato business:
It is now September and harvest time is here again!!
This
will be the annual crop update for Norm Nelson, Inc. The
Spring was a little cool and “slow” but
as many of you heard, it was unusually warm and dry this
Summer for our growing season. The reports from the
farm sound like there is a very nice crop waiting to be harvested.
We
will begin harvest on Wednesday 9/9/09.
Three varieties – reds,
whites, and yellows – should be ready our first week
of harvest. The
purples will be ready after October 1 and we have a test
plot of red skin / yellow flesh potatoes that should also
be ready in October. Most of the varieties
are the same as last year – reds are Chieftain and
whites are Cascade. Yellows
are Yukon Gold, Provento and Satina. Our normal harvest
and packing schedule will have white potatoes available until
about mid-November. The reds,
yellows, and purples are part of our storage program and
should last until next March or April depending on this year’s
yields and pack out.
Our line of packaging will be similar to last year. Our “Double
N” label
is our long standing premium quality label. The “Golden
Seal” is
our second label for the value-oriented buyer that still
needs a US#1 potato. The “Pedigree” is
our long standing popular US#2 label. We have many
consumer pack options under these labels so please check
our web site www.doublenpotatoes.com for
all the packaging combinations – and more of the “Double
N” story!
We sincerely want to thank all that supported our “Double
N” potato
program over the years. As we feel the excitement of another
harvest season, we look forward to visiting with our past
customers and anticipate making new acquaintances.
Please
call Scott Wharton or Myron Ayers for your colored potato
needs!!
Looking forward to a great potato year!
